Out on patrol with the Beachlands & Maraetai Crime Watch Volunteers –National Party Candidate for Hunua Andrew Bayly, Driver Tony Astell and Stan Boswell.
NATIONAL PARTY CANDIDATE EXPERIENCES BEACHLANDS & MARAETAI CRIME WATCH VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION
Andrew Bayly, National Party candidate for the Hunua seat, recently saw what a great job the Crime Watch Volunteers in Beachlands and Maraetai during the course of a night shift.
Bayly accompanied long-term members Stan Boswell, and Tony Astell on a shift last Friday night around Beachlands and Maraetai.
“The experience revealed what a wonderful job these guys do in generally reducing crime and making Beachlands and Maraetai safe for every one”, said Mr Bayly.
The purpose of the Crime Watch team is to observe people and property and, when necessary, act as a back up to the Police on matters, such as accidents. Often they are working under instruction from the police, but the general visibility of the car and the team that helps reduce crime over time.
There are currently 44 volunteers on the books and they undertake many patrols every week, all during the course of the day. Like all volunteer organisations, the need to continue to refresh the banks of the volunteer numbers is always an issue.
The Patrol Liaison officers go to monthly meetings with the police for formal briefing on recent developments. Good record-keeping is also an important part of the job.
“The Crime Watch Volunteer organisation does a wonderful job in Beachlands and Maraetai and needs all the support it can get”, concludes Bayly.
